Originally from Cardiff, I completed my initial 8 years of academic and clinical training in Edinburgh and Glasgow Universities and hospitals, obtaining a Masters degree in Psychology in 1994 and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 1998.
Overall I have 20 years’ experience of therapeutic work with adults in the NHS in Scotland and Wales. My last NHS post was as Consultant Clinical Psychologist/Head of Neuropsychology in Hywel Dda NHS UHB. I left the NHS in 2014 to start my own private therapy practice.
My core training as a Doctor of Clinical Psychology is as an integrative therapist. This means I have experience of using a range of therapies and can draw on different models and techniques to tailor a treatment package specifically for you.
Particular therapeutic models I use include:
- Attachment Theory
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT)
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Jungian Theory
- Mindfulness
- Object Relations Theory
- Systemic Therapy
- Transactional Analysis (TA)
Following two years of post-graduate study I qualified as a Cognitive Analytic Therapy Practitioner in 2010. My most recent training in 2018 is as an EMDR therapist.
